PROJECT: BROWNFIELD DEVELOPMENT
DESCRIPTION:
During the latter stages of demolition of the former Kaiser Steel Mill and the subsequent development of one of the nations largest Brownfield Developments, the California Speedway, 18,000 tons of soluble lead, copper, and zinc contaminated soil was unearthed. The average level of contamination was 65-85 mg/L STLC. Because of Soli-Bond Inc.’s expertise in this area, we were contacted by Mr. Anthony Silva, Director of Corporate Engineering and Environmental Affairs and asked to formulate a remediation program. PROJECT: 14 WELL GAS STORAGE FIELD SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION:
Pitless drilling operation in Michigan consisting of solidification processing and disposal of 8,000 cubic yards of salt saturated drilling fluids and semi-solids collected from solids control equipment. This processing was accomplished through use of Soli-Bond, Inc.’s SB-7 processor unit without the use of reserve pits. The use of a conventional pit system was ruled out due to the use of only three drill pads for all of the wells. One pad consisted of (7) seven well heads. Further, this project was located in an extremely environmentally sensitive area of Northern Michigan and conducted during peak tourist season. Learn more
PROJECT:
DAMES & MOORE – SQUARE D FACILITY
LEAD AND COPPER CONTAMINATED SOIL
DESCRIPTION:
The Square D Company Facility that manufactured computer circuit boards was slated for disassembling and eventual sale. During the assessment of the property, soil samples indicated extremely high levels of lead and copper, which were characterized as hazardous under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Approximately 5,000 tons were excavated and stockpiled for treatment. Further investigation uncovered an aged municipal solid waste burn dump, circa 1940. Characterization revealed elevated levels of lead, which were determined to be RCRA hazardous. Approximately 3,000 tons of ash were excavated and stockpiled for treatment. Learn more
PROJECT: GOLDEN EAGLE REFINERY
DESCRIPTION:
Approximately 10,000 tons of soil exceeding California Soluble Lead Threshold Concentration (STLC) was stockpiled on-site. The soil was excavated from the surface to three feet below grade of a former waste processing area on the site. Learn more
PROJECT: OFFSHORE WASTE HANDLING
DESCRIPTION:
Soli-Bond, Inc. was contracted to develop a solid and liquid waste conveyance system to manage the waste stream from an active oil and gas drilling and production facility offshore Long Beach, California. The team of Soli-Bond engineers and designers encountered many challenges. The primary concern was to build an apparatus that safely transferred the waste and also met the strict environmental policies that were mandatory in this very sensitive offshore environment. PROJECT:
SOLIDIFICATION/STABILIZATION OF AN OIL
TANK BOTTOM RECOVERY LAGOON
DESCRIPTION:
In efforts to comply with state guideline to close all open pit oil impoundments, Santa Fe Energy solicited the assistance of Soli-Bond, Inc. to develop an in-situ closure plan for a 40 year old, 180,000 barrel oil tank bottom recovery lagoon. Learn more
DESCRIPTION:
Soil excavation was conducted in conjunction with construction of a Clean Fuels Project (CFP). CFP is a State and Federal mandated program to produce reformulated gasoline at the refinery. Aerial photographs of the excavation site indicated a long history of use as a commercial- industrial facility, and the site of oil exploration and production. Learn more
PROJECT: ARCO REFINERY – WORLD OIL TANK FARM
DESCRIPTION:
After demolition of oil storage tanks, excavation of 4,000 tons of soluble lead and hydrocarbon contaminated soil was unearthed. After thorough analytical testing, it was determine the average level of contamination was 65-85 mg/L STLC lead and above 1,000 PPM TPH. Because of Soli-Bond, Inc.’s extensive refinery safety training and expertise in remediation of contaminated soils and sludges, we were contacted to formulate a remediation program. Learn more
PROJECT:
SOIL CEMENT CAP
MATERIALS RECYCLING AND HANDLING FACILITY
DESCRIPTION:
In continuing Brownfield’s redevelopment efforts at the former Kaiser Steel Mill site in Fontana, CA, Soli-Bond, Inc. was invited to develop an alternative procedure to remediate 32,000 tons of soil with soluble metal levels which exceeded California threshold limits. Learn more
PROJECT: OIL & GAS PRODUCTION PIT CLOSURES
DESCRIPTION:
Solidification of approximately 150 oil & gas production facility pits containing production and drilling wastes with varying amounts of hydrocarbons, barium compounds, and trace amounts of heavy metals. Total amount of sludge treated over a two-year period, approximately 180,000 cubic yards. Learn more
PROJECT: BIRTCHER RIVERSIDE MARKETPLACE DEVELOPMENT
DESCRIPTION:
A U.S. Cold Storage facility was dismantled in preparation for construction of a theater and community rail depot in conjunction with development of the Riverside Marketplace Development project. During excavation, elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons were discovered. Subsequent characterization revealed substantial ash deposits with levels of total and soluble lead and copper in excess of total and soluble threshold limit concentrations (STLC & TTLC). Approximately 15,000 tons were excavated and stockpiled for treatment. Learn more
